KNIGHT RIDDER/TRIBUNE NEWS SERVICE'S NEW WEEKLY COLUMN 'VIRTUAL WOMAN' RESOURCE FOR ONLINE WOMEN

Starting September 14, Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service will offer a new weekly column with a focus on helping women maximize their use of the Internet. The Virtual Woman: A Woman's Weekly Guide to Cyberspace is created by WWWomen Inc., whose WWWomen.com (www.wwwomen.com) is the premier search directory for women online.

Each week, The Virtual Woman answers a variety of questions from women about resources that might be helpful to them on the Web, from home and garden to career and money topics. Columns with a business focus will alternate weekly with columns covering lifestyle issues.

"We're seeing a growing need from our news subscribers for columns and information that help people find their way around the Web," said Mike Duggan, KRT's managing editor. "The Virtual Woman takes an interesting angle -- it's like a 'Dear Abby' feature with a cybertwist."

WWWomen Inc. is best known for its flagship directory, WWWomen.com, offering the most comprehensive collection of links to female-focused Web sites. WWWomen.com has been chosen as one of the best destinations for women online by publications such as U.S. News and World Report, Glamour Magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle.

"We thought that what we do every day, collecting links with a female focus, put us in perfect position," said Sue Levin, WWWomen Inc.'s president. "We know what women are asking for and we know what's out there. The Virtual Woman column gives us an opportunity to give women (and men, too) an offline hard-copy venue where they can learn about extremely useful Web sites. Our relationship with Knight Ridder/Tribune gives us the distribution engine to get this column to an audience that can really use it."
