susan: The Scene: Saturday morning breakfast table: We are sitting at the beautifully set table...the mayor to my right, to my left are Jan and Becky. Kate is seated across the table from Harriet (bear with me folks), and across from me is my roomate Pat, with Cindy and Sadie to her right. Conversation flowing so easily, laughter at sound of Leigh, our hostess, signing on _____. We have been served our choice of juice and now I fall in love with the appetizer, a fruit soup of raspberries, creamed with yogurt and a dash of lemon sorbet. ..hmm my senses have been taken to new height. (That happens when, after a life time of holding back, you go for the gold and sometimes you actually get it. I did.) OK, back to the scene...look for my napkin and see that Pat and Cindy and Sadie have located theirs. "Hey sister girls, where did you find the napkins?" Being "tribal sistren" if I may quote our Debra (Ed. Note: You may.), they smile and point to the 10 inch white linen napkins standing ever so properly in their holders, inches above the silverware I have at my setting. I rolled my eyes, amazed at not seeing the tree for the forest. Moral of the story...when at a gathering, your sisters will look out for you and laugh with you and not at you. And laugh we did...throughout the weekend... thank you sistren... One of the most interesting aspects of our interactions with each other on these boards is the "spillover" into our family lives, and vice versa. During the fall of 1998, susan often shared her thoughts and hopes about her daughter, who was expecting a child. susan's grandson was born on Thanksgiving Day, promptly dubbed "the Turkey Boy," and greeted joyously by our community. On the Monday after the return of the eight travelers, "Turkey Boy's" mom, Kathryn, posted the following message to her mom: "First I would like to say Hi Mommie! I am not going to hog your wonderful board! LOL But I just could not keep lurking after reading some of the posts about your magical weekend..... |
