Becky: I had not been able to sleep due to being anxious and a little nervous, so finally at around 4:30 am I go to sleep (alarm to go off at 5 am!), get up, move slow---kids want to go to McDonald's for breakfast (just in case Mom never came back-ya know the ax murderer and all!) Running late---gotta get gas in truck---hit traffic and high winds---time for me to be at Jan's and still a good hour away. So call her and tell her I can go 70 when I get to 70 (Jan promises not to tell on me), hit lots of road construction. Finally, about 10 miles from Jan's house, stop in gas station to freshen up---find Jan's house. A little anxious---go to door, and Jan opens and says, "Becky"? "Yeah!"--- and welcomes me in. Love the siamese cat! We pack everything in her car and go---Jan has the rest. Jan: Up at dawn so excited. Packed everything last night in anticipation of an early start. Waiting on Becky....waiting on Becky......waiting on Becky. Phone rings....it's Becky! Oh, no, she's running a little late. She will be another hour or so. Okay, Becky, no problem....I'll keep my eyes open for you! Getting on computer and reading messages now....trying to kill time until Becky arrives. Read all the messages, post a couple of messages.....still no Becky! I hope she hasn't had a wreck? I hope I didn't get her lost with my directions? I hope she isn't stuck in traffic someplace because of road work or an accident? A red S-10 pulls into the driveway.....is it Becky? Oh my yes! It's Becky!! Time to leave now - getting excited all over again! We load her things into the back of my car, park her truck in my driveway where "the infamous John" has told me to have her park, then off we go! Ooops! Forgot I have to get some gas. Delay leaving Elwood until I can fill my tank. Listening to the news! Semis off the roads because of high winds; snow in Des Moines! Did Cindy and Kate get away okay? I hope their roads aren't too bad! I hope the high winds didn't wreak havoc with the Sadie and Pat's flights! Tank is full and we are off! Talking that is. Becky and I talk non-stop through the state of Indiana and part way into Illinois. Becky finally says, "Are we going to stop and eat?" Oh yeah, we do have to do that don't we? lol We pull off the road and buy some lunch, then pull into the gas station and fill up. Becky says she'll go into the mart and buy something sweet. I go in to the station to pay for the gas and *drat* that Becky has already paid for the gas! I can see right now I'll have to be a little trickier with this smart lady! And we're off again... A Little Detour... (Carmel and Mariane were dying to know what the "surprise gift" from the gang at WWWomen.com was. Here is Becky's reply.) There is a handblown glass artist in Augusta whom we went to visit (which is a pretty funny story actually). The WWWomen admins were so generous to get all of us a beautiful piece. I'm putting mine up in my sitting room in front of the window, so that the sun goes thru it and casts a beautiful color all around the room. Now for the funny story: we arrived and the poor glass blower, not knowing what he may have gotten himself into, asked, "What would you like to do first? When Her Honor (that would be Harriet) said, "Well if you want to just blow something?" At which I could not restrain the laughter! |
