Can I introduce you to my friend? She's a remarkable person. She has never, never in the midst of great trials sat down and refused to get up. I know a couple of times, she did sit. But she gathered herself together after a time of rest and reflection, (once in awhile there was a time of well-deserved 'I'm not gonna do it
anymore' but that never lasted)- sometimes, I think just for the sake of her children she got back on her feet and moved forward.
I can't share many things because it's not my story to share.
But where her story crosses into mine, I can share some of it. She sat with my mother as she died of brain cancer. She held my hand as I said good-bye to
my beloved grandfather one year later. She encouraged me and listened as I struggled for several years to hold my marriage together. She loved me when I
decided that struggle was over. She didn't judge my actions, even when they might have been counter to her personal reactions.
We can talk nightly and then not talk for a week or two. It doesn't matter. We just keep going.
She's not been the center of attention most of her life. But she has accomplished great things and I want to honor her today, this week as she completes the
work that will lead her into her dream.
I am honored and blessed to call Kate my friend.
Congratulations, friend, on completing your Masters course work.
I know you'd say the glory belongs to God. However, you're the one who has worked so hard, you've sacrificed. At this time, the glory is yours.
You go out there and shine, Kate!
